Shutters

We have learned a whole lot about old shutters that we never wanted to understand. First, older shutters are heavier and more functional than brand new shutters. The slats could be adjusted. They weigh like iron. I have so many questions! Who made these to begin with? Were there numerous woodworkers in Galveston? We’re shutters cheaper in the old days? We are finding a few people who make them now. You can get standard sizes at Lowe’s or Home Depot, but the larger ones require a special manufacturer. A big difficulty is that there are several shutter sizes on our house. There are huge ones that covered porch windows, smaller shutters for narrow windows, then a size window that seems standard for most of the house. However, looking at neighboring homes in Galveston, many houses have similar shutters all over. I’d like to go measure their shutters, too, for comparison! But that would just be weird.
