Replacing porches
Our porches, steps, and railings are showing some wear after 100 years. Our contractor is meticulously puttying and replacing rotten wood. He found some termite damage. Did you know that termites are drawn to light at night, and that they regularly swarm is Galveston? I'm thinking those wonderful lights that show up the beautiful architecture and landscaping may be a bad idea. All the areas where there is raw wood were showing some rot or termite damage. With some putty, these will be better protected from those sideways rains that bring flooding into my parlor. The water comes in right below these windows. Don't you love the stained glass? This is my favorite room in our house.
